About Me

My Story

A highly motivated, organised and driven individual with wide ranging career experience in the field of technology.  As a Systems Analyst for Hamilton Fire at the City of Hamilton, my core responsibility is to ensure the software used for their critical systems is robust and efficient.  


I thrive on challenge, and do not shy away from complex situations and challenging deliverables. I am a firm believer in the power of collaboration across all lines of business in order to deliver the best possible results.

Acting Supervisor - Business Applications, City of Hamilton

June 2024 - September 2024

  • Provided leadership and day to day management of the work and performance of a team of business applications staff that implement and support corporate and departmental business processes and software solutions to the City of Hamilton while recovering from a major cybersecurity incident

  • Lead Information Technology programs and initiatives that span City of Hamilton departments and impacts multiple technical environments. This required advanced knowledge and insight in multiple municipal, business and technology areas

  • Responsible for implementing industry best practices for the purposes of proactively monitoring and maintaining the health and security of corporate data assets and supporting systems ensuring that unplanned interruptions of services do not occur

Systems Analyst - Enterprise Resource Planning, City of Hamilton

November 2021 - June 2024, September 2024 - present

Lead analyst supporting Hamilton Fire, I facilitate the effective use of business applications technologies, databases, and development processes to meet the business needs of both internal and external corporate clients. Through project and operational roles, I define application requirements, including functional and technical specifications and designs, configuration rules and setup, and integration/installation and maintenance procedures for custom and packaged application solutions.


Ensuring the stability and effectiveness of the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) and Records and Document Management Software (RMS).

Vice President - Development Lead/Software Developer III; Bank of America, Toronto

December 2018 - November 2021

Core deliverables

  • Application Manager: Performed security checks on all the team’s applications to ensure no vulnerabilities, remediated non-permitted or declining technology, ensuring the applications are certified regularly, completed DR tests annually, ensured applications complied with all internal standards

  • Release Engineer: Ensured all changes  that were released to production had been fully tested and signed off. Liaised with all teams involved in the SDLC from build management, QA, UAT, Environment Management and Deployment Management. Hosted retrospectives and recorded stats for every release to implement continuous improvement to success metrics

  • Senior Developer: Conducted code reviews to ensure quality of team output.  Trained new members of the team on the various applications, tools and coding standards utilised. Assisted the production support team with resolving more technical issues. Mentored junior team members. Worked closely with business users, developing a strong relationship by providing support and training

  • DevOps Lead: Investigated the tools available for CI/CD and planned how to get the various applications onboarded. After onboarding, trained the team to use them and ensure seamless integration into production environments


Personal Achievements:


  • After taking on the Release Engineer role, release defects were reduced from 21% to less than 1%

  • Re-engineered the batch of one application to run 40% faster

  • Fully onboarded our applications to use CI tools, with CD integration on track for early 2022

  • Achieved an exceeds rating in 4 of the last 5 years

  • Helped increase the teams Agile rating from walk to fly in 2 years

Vice President - Software Developer II; Bank of America, Dublin

April 2015 - November 2018

I accepted an offer to move internally to the Counterparty Credit Risk Technology group in a team lead role. CCRT are responsible for all applications that deal with calculating the bank’s exposure across all traded products to ensure that our compliance teams can accurately manage this risk. The following were my high-level responsibilities:  


  • Scrum master for a globally dispersed team of 9 developers and testers 

  • Update to the bank’s Collateral Recognition application  -  this work saved circa $1.3bn in Basel eligible collateral 

  • Significant Java upgrade of Tier 1 Application 

  • UI changes to facilitate two intraday batches on top of the end of day batch

  • Significant Python upgrade of three Quartz applications 

  • Member of the Junior Talent team, tasked with attracting and recruiting top candidates from universities

July 2011 - April 2015

Highlights:

  • Subject matter expert and first point of contact for business analysts, production support and finance users on a number of regulatory applications

  • Implemented a regulatory calendar app for the Latin American region. The scheduled reports were inserted into the database via a UI, and emails were sent to selected contacts per region to notify of any upcoming reporting deadlines

  • Worked on both the .Net 3.5 front end and SQL Server 2008 back end of separate project initiatives to provide regulatory reporting for Australia and Korea

  • Given sole development responsibility for legacy regulatory reporting application that was utilised for preparing XML files for submission to the Irish and UK Regulators. App was hosted on a Citrix server, utilising XML reportsets to map data to an Excel interface built using .Net. Implemented CRDIII regulatory changes to the app, before it was finally superseded by a new strategic  application

  • Heavily involved in the design and development of the database of the new strategic  application. Built the batch jobs that imported the data from the capital calculation app, as well as the stored procedures that manipulated the data into the required aggregated format to populate the reporting tables 

  • Conducted training on site in London and Dublin for the regulatory finance teams on the strategic  application

The BEngTech (Electronics & Communications Engineering) course included modules Software Systems, Software Design, Digital Communications Engineering and had a strong focus on Mathematics
